  • When is the library open?
    Unless otherwise posted, the library is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30a to 4:00p and on Fridays from 8:30a to 4:00p. Students can access the library before or after school, during lunch, or with a pass from a teacher. Occasionally, the library will close during regularly scheduled hours for classes, meetings, or special activities. However, online resources are available at all times, and students who need to print a class assignment can typically do so in the Los Osos Career Center.
  • Where can I get an ID card?
    Although you can use library resources without your ID card, all students are expected to carry their current LOHS ID cards at all times, and you must have an ID card to participate in many school activities, such as dances. Los Osos High School no longer prints physical ID cards. After taking your annual yearbook photo, download the 5 STAR Student app and follow the instructions to access your digital ID. Contact Ms. McMillin in the Administration Office with any questions.
  • Do I need an appointment for tutoring?
    Teachers and NHS tutors and available Monday through Thursday before and after school. No appointments are necessary, and tutoring is free! When you enter the library, sign-in for tutoring. Then, sit at a table with a subject sign, and a tutor will help you.
  • How do I pay a library fine?
    First, collect the information you will need to pay your fine(s), by logging into your Destiny Discover account and selecting Fines from the My Stuff tab. Make a note of the fine amount and the barcode for each item. Then select one of the following links, based on the type of item: Chromebook Charges, Library Book Charges (includes LitCircle novels), or Textbook Charges (includes whole-class novels). Complete the form as directed and click Add to Cart. Repeat this process if you are paying for multiple items. Then click Checkout and complete the payment as directed. Los Osos Library typically receives confirmation of your payment within 48 hours, and we'll update your Destiny Discover account shortly thereafter. If you need immediate clearance for a hold on dance tickets, transcripts, etc., please bring a copy of your receipt to the library.
  • How do I check out games and/or puzzles?
    Los Osos Library has a variety games and puzzles for students to enjoy! The games in our collection are listed below for your convenience. Don't see your favorite game? Request it by filling out the form at the bottom of this page. Note: These are not on display, so please speak to a library staff member if you'd like to check out a game or puzzle for use in the library.
  • How do I check out multimedia equipment?
    Los Osos Library provides a number of multimedia tools that students can use for classroom and personal projects. Listed below are items that can be used in the library or its adjacent spaces. If you'd like to use any of this equipment, just ask a library staff member! - Audio equipment for podcasting - Tripods - Green screens - Photo/video lighting - iPads with multimedia editing apps
  • How much does it cost to print or photocopy?
    Printing and copying are free for all printer-friendly, school-related assignments. If you need to print or copy personal items, like party invitations or club flyers, the cost is ten cents per page. Log onto one of the library computers using your district username and password, and select the "Library-Student Xerox 5325" setting to print.
  • Do you have a color printer?
    Unfortunately, Los Osos Library can only offer black-and-white printing at this time.
  • I'm looking for something specific, and I can't find it. Now what?
    First and foremost, don't give up without speaking to a library staff member! We may be able to locate it for you on the shelf or find it in an order that's waiting to be processed. If we don't have it, we'll do our best to purchase it for you! Just fill out the form at the bottom of this page with your request. Another option is our local Rancho Cucamonga Public Libraries. They offer a wide collection of fiction and nonfiction books, digital audio and ebooks, research databases, and more.   • How do I log into Destiny Discover?
    Destiny Discover can be used search our online catalog, save favorite book titles, renew or place books on hold, and review fines and other patron records. To log in, use your district credentials: Students who began attending Los Osos prior to July 2024, use your LONG ID NUMBER as the username and your SHORT ID NUMBER + Pwd as the password (e.g., 123456@cjuhsd.net and 12345Pwd). Students who began attending Los Osos after July 2024, use your LONG ID NUMBER as the username and your UPPERCASE FIRST NAME INTITIAL + LOWERCASE LAST NAME INITIAL + SHORT ID NUMBER as the password (e.g., 123456@cjuhsd.net and Ab12345).
  • Where can I find out which library and/or textbooks are checked out in my name?
    Information on current and past checkouts can be found on the My Stuff tab in Destiny Discover. To access this tab, log into your Destiny account using your district username and password.
  • How do I renew a book that I'm still reading?
    You can renew a book using your Destiny Discover account. Log into Destiny Discover using your district username and password. Then select Checkouts on the My Stuff tab. Click the three dots at the bottom corner of the book's record and click Renew.
  • How do I place a book that I want on hold?
    If you'd like to read a book that's currently checked out by another student, we can set it aside for you as soon as it's returned. Simply log into Destiny Discover using your district credentials, search to locate the book's record, and then click the Hold option next to the book's cover image. We'll notify you as soon as it's available.
  • How many books can I check out? For how long?
    Students can check out up to three books at a time. (Additional books can be checked out under special circumstances. See your librarian for help.) All books are checked out in two-week increments. If you need more than two weeks to complete a book, stop by the library to renew your book or renew it online by logging into Destiny Discover. Most books can be checked out for up to six weeks with renewals.
  • What if my book is late?
    It is important to return your library books on time since other students may be waiting to check them out. However, the Los Osos Library is no longer charging late fees for overdue books. Return your book to the library as soon as possible!
  • How do I renew a book that I'm still reading?
    You can always bring your book to the library, and a library staff member can renew it for you--but there's an easier option. Renew your book using your Destiny Discover account! Log into Destiny Discover using your district username and password. Then select Checkouts on the My Stuff tab. Click the three dots at the bottom corner of the book's record and click Renew.
  • What if I lose or damage a library book?
    Students who lose books or return books that are moldy or intentionally damaged will be charged the purchase price of the book. Most novels cost between $15 and $25, but textbooks can run over $200. Be careful with your books! You are financially responsible for any items checked out in your name. Do not leave library items in teachers' classrooms, where they are often lost or stolen. To determine your charges, sign into your Destiny Discover account and select Fines from the My Stuff tab. Click on the appropriate link to make a payment: Library Book Charges (includes LitCircle novels) or Textbook Charges (includes whole-class novels).
  • What is Sora?
    Sora is the app used for our collection of fiction audiobooks and eBooks. To access this digital collection, open the Sora app from your Chromebook Launchpad or download the Sora app to your device from the Google Play or Apple App store. If this is your first time using the app, you may need to locate your school by clicking on the word Continue next to Have a setup code? and entering CJUHSD. The app will then use your district username and password to sign you in.
  • Does Los Osos Library carry audiobooks?
    Absolutely! Our digital collection includes a variety of classic and contemporary fiction, including many of the titles read in English classes. To access audiobooks, open the Sora app from your Chromebook Launchpad or download the Sora app to your device from the Google Play or Apple App store. If this is your first time using the app, you may need to locate your school by clicking on the word Continue next to Have a setup code? and entering CJUHSD. The app will then use your district username and password to sign you in.
  • How do I access eBooks?
    Los Osos Library carries two different collections of eBooks, fiction and nonfiction. To access fiction eBooks, open the Sora app from your Chromebook Launchpad or download the Sora app to your device from the Google Play or Apple App store. If this is your first time using the app, you may need to locate your school by clicking on the word Continue next to Have a setup code? and entering CJUHSD. The app will then use your district username and password to sign you in. Nonfiction eBooks, including teen wellness titles and reference books, can be accessed through Destiny Discover. Simply locate an eBook you'd like to read and click the word Open next to its cover image. You'll be redirected to the Gale eBooks website asked for a password. Enter the password grizzlies and begin reading!
  • Can I request a book?
    Yes, please! If the book is already in our collection, you can place it on hold through Destiny Discover. Simply log into Destiny Discover using your district username and password, search to locate the book's record, and then click the Hold option next to the book's cover image. If the book isn't already in our library collection, no worries! Book orders are placed throughout the year. If you'd like to request a specific book, email Ms. Becker using the contact form at the bottom of this page. You will be notified when your requested book is available for check out.
  • How do I log into the library databases?
    Our library databases are integrated with our district network credentials (SSO), which means that you can directly access them from your Chromebook. First log into your Chromebook using your district username and password. The database platforms will pull the login information from your Chromebook and automatically sign you in as a member of CJUHSD. If you need to research from a different device (e.g., laptop, desktop, tablet), select login with Microsoft 365 (or Google) and enter your district username and password. If you're unable to login, CLICK HERE for a slideshow that includes district-level passwords for Gale and ProQuest databases. Students who began attending Los Osos prior to July 2024, use your LONG ID NUMBER as the username and your SHORT ID NUMBER + Pwd as the password (e.g., 123456@cjuhsd.net and 12345Pwd).   • How do I use the library databases?
    Select the "Research" tab on the library website to access all of our paid databases. Then select the topic that best fits your research needs. In most cases, this will be one of our "all subjects" databases -- ProQuest eLibrary (beginner), Gale in Context: High School, or ProQuest Central Student (advanced). Tutorials are listed with each database. If you need additional help, please ask for Ms. Becker, your Teacher Librarian.
  • I need more database options! Now what?
    Depending on your course and assignment, you may need more resources to complete your research. If you can't find the information you need, begin by talking to your Teacher Librarian, Ms. Becker, who may be able to help you conduct more effective searches. If you are still at a loss, turn to the resources offered through our Rancho Cucamonga Public Libraries. They carry additional databases, including Ebsco which is regularly used at the college level. To access these databases, you will need a library card. Online registration is available HERE, and RCPL's databases can be found HERE.
  • What if I forget to bring my Chromebook to school?
    It's essential to bring your fully charged Chromebook to class every day! Just like a pencil and paper, Chromebooks are essential tools for learning in the Twenty-first Century--and most importantly, not having having this tool in class may require you to complete classwork at home or after school in the library. Fortunately, many teachers have spare Chromebooks in their classrooms, and they may be willing to loan you a device for the period. PLEASE NOTE: If you already have a Chromebook checked out in your name, Los Osos Library cannot check out a second device for you to borrow for the day. Exceptions are only made during standardized testing sessions or with Administrator approval.
  • What if I damage or lose my Chromebook?
    Students who damage Chromebook components, such as a screen or keyboard, will be charged the cost of repair. Chromebooks that are lost or cannot be repaired will be charged the salvage cost for the item. Repair and replacement costs may vary depending on the Chromebook model. See a library staff member the for the specific repair or replacement cost for your Chromebook. To make a payment, click on the following link: Chromebook Charges. If your damaged Chromebook can be repaired, you'll be issued a temporary "LOANER" Chromebook to use until yours is available. Please visit the library as soon as you are notified that repairs are complete, so you can return the Loaner Chromebook and pick up your assigned Chromebook.
  • How do I powerwash my Chromebook?
    Directions for powerwashing your Chromebook can be found at the bottom of the CJUHSD Student Technology Support homepage. Directions differ based on the model of your Chromebook, so be sure to select the correct set of instructions!
  • What if my Chromebook screen won't turn on?
    If your Chromebook is charged but the screen won't turn on, try each of the following troubleshooting steps: 1) Press the button at the top of your keyboard that increases the screen's brightness. 2) Wake your Chromebook from a deep sleep by holding the REFRESH button and tapping the POWER button. 2) Bring your Chromebook to the library for repairs.
  • What if my Chromebook won't connect to the internet?
    If you're unable to connect to the internet, try each of the following troubleshooting steps: 1) Power off and restart your Chromebook. 2) Visit the CJUHSD Student Technology Support website and follow the instructions to POWERWASH your device. 3) Call the CJUHSD Technology Help Line at (909) 946-8226.
  • What if my Chromebook is running slowly?
    If your Chromebook is running slowly, try each of the following troubleshooting steps: 1) Update your Chromebook's operating system. Instructions with pictures can be found at the Asus Support FAQ webpage. 2) Visit the CJUHSD Student Technology Support website and follow the instructions to POWERWASH your device.
  • What if I have other Chromebook issues or troubleshooting doesn't work?
    Library staff is here to help! Bring your Chromebook to the library before or after school, during lunch, or with a pass from your teacher. If we're unable to solve the problem, you'll be issued a LOANER Chromebook while yours is repaired. You'll receive a notification to return to the library once repairs are complete.
  • What if I lose or damage a textbook?

    Some of the textbooks used at Los Osos include digital resources. Visit the TEXTBOOKS page of this website to locate your textbook and determine if it includes an online version. If so, click the link below the textbook image and log in using your district username and password.
